Business Health Check

Rural Business Support (RBS) collaborated with AUSVEG SA under the VegNET SA program, a research and business capacity-building initiative funded by Hort Innovation through the National Vegetable Levy. This program was designed to provide vegetable growers with financial analysis and strategic planning support to strengthen their businesses.

RBS Rural Financial Counsellors facilitated the Business Health Check Project, working with ten South Australian vegetable growing businesses. The process began with a self-assessment survey covering business operations, finances, market outlook, and personal development. RBS Rural Financial Counsellors then conducted one-on-one farm visits to analyse responses and discuss key financial and operational challenges.

The project identified several common challenges among growers, including difficulties in delegating management tasks, lack of structured financial planning, and limited financial reporting mechanisms. By addressing these gaps, the program helped participants develop better management practices and long-term financial strategies.

The VegNET SA program aimed to enhance financial awareness and strengthen the overall business capabilities of vegetable growers while supporting industry-wide research and development.
