In partnership with the Outback Communities Authority (OCA) and funded through an Australian Government grant, Rural Business Support (RBS) delivered the OCA/RBS Pastoral Business Review to assist pastoral businesses in the Northern Flinders Ranges. This initiative provided expert financial guidance to help businesses proactively manage and recover from the financial impacts of drought.
Pastoral businesses located north of Carrieton, south of Marree, east of Lake Torrens and west of the Yunta to Arkaroola Road participated in a two-stage review process. The program provided tools and expert support to analyse their business strategically, identify opportunities and develop resilience-building strategies.

Stage one involved strategic briefing sessions, where participants explored key business questions, including their financial position, business direction and banking options. Stage two focused on one-on-one sessions with an RBS financial analyst to assess financial performance, identify risks and opportunities, and develop a Strategic Action Plan to assist with future planning and finance negotiations.
OCA Board Chair, Bill McIntosh, highlighted the program’s impact, stating: “Pastoral businesses in our region have suffered from prolonged drought and declining wool prices. This program has been instrumental in supporting them through difficult times and will provide lasting benefits to the broader community.”
